Drastic Implications of US-led NATO Air Strikes

 By Sajjad Shaukat

Drastic Implications of US-led NATO Air Strikes:While tension has already been increasing between Pakistan and the United States since May 2 when US forces killed Bin Laden in violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty in wake of American false allegations against Pak Army and country’s intelligence agency ISI for their support to the Afghan insurgency, and distorting the image of these security agencies by deliberately involving in the memogate scandal, on the mid-night of November 26, unprovoked firing by the US-led NATO Jet-helicopters on Pakistan Army outposts in Mohmand Agency which killed 24 troops proved a bolt from the sky.

Since 9/11, US has been playing double game with Pakistan, sometimes praising Pak Army for successful military operations, sometimes ISI for capturing renowned Al Qaeda commanders, and sometimes cajoling Islamabad with economic and military aid, while at the same time, in connivance with India and Israel, America has been continuing its anti-Pakistan activities by supporting militancy in Pakistan and separatism in Balochistan. Now its old maximum to ‘do more’ against the militants has become a joke when any Pakistani citizen takes it in light of US air raids, ground shelling and drone attacks.

However, regarding new air strikes, Director General Military Operations Maj-Gen. Ishfaq Nadeem said on November 29 this year that the NATO attacks on border check posts in Mohmand Agency were deliberate because “the positions of the posts were already conveyed to the ISAF through map references and it was impossible that they did not know these to be our posts.” On November 28, Pakistan’s army spokesman Major-Gen. Athar Abbas also expressed similar thoughts, adding that NATO could not make the excuse that they were chasing terrorists across the border because the area where the attacks took place had been cleared off the insurgents.

On the other side, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Defence Secretary Leon Panetta offered their “deepest condolences” in the cross-border incident, vowing ‘full probe’ into matter immediately. Gen John Allen, commander of the NATO-led coalition forces in Afghanistan and NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen also supported the ISAF investigation regarding the event. Quite contrarily to the statement of NATO secretary general, spokesman for the NATO/ISAF), Brigadier General Carsten Jacobson admitted, it is responsible for the casualties on Pakistani soil.

But Pakistan has refused to accept expressions of regret over the cross-border attack that has inflamed US-Pakistani ties. Notably, in the past too, a number of such attacks were launched by the US jets and helicopters which targeted the security check posts of Pakistan, killing many military and paramilitary troops. Despite Islamabad’s strong reaction, lodging protest, every times, high officials of the US and ISAF have ordered investigation, but without any progress, these attacks have kept on going.

US has always accused Pakistan of cross-border terrorism in Afghanistan. While, in the last few months, heavily-armed insurgents from Afghanistan’s side entered Pakistan’s region intermittently, targeting the security check posts, killing more than 100 personal of Pakistan’s security.

Nevertheless, in wake of Pak-US strained relations, the latest aerial strikes on Pakistan’s military check posts have added injury to the fuel. These have brought about drastic effects and are likely to result in far-reaching implications not only on Pakistan and the whole region, but also on US and other NATO allies.

As regards the immediate effects of this worst incident, while showing strong reaction Pakistan’s civil and military leadership has taken tough measures especially against America which is the leading country in connection with this air raid. Pakistan not only blocked the NATO supply to Afghanistan across its country, but also asked the US to vacate the Shamsi Airbase within 15 days. Pakistan has also brought the NATO cross-border strike to the attention of the UN Security Council. Meanwhile, people organised demonstrations and rallies in major cities of Pakistan, showing resentment against the US, and calling on Islamabad to break off its alliance with the United States.

Prime Minister Gilani and Foreign Minister pointed out that Pakistan would review its engagement with the US and its other allies. In this respect, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, while strongly condemning NATO air strikes, has directed all necessary steps for an effective response to the NATO attack.

Despite Islamabad’s strong reaction, US high officials refused to apologize. So, going a step ahead, on November 29, Pakistan decided to boycott the forthcoming Bonn Coference on the future of Afghanistan. The Bonn meeting is aimed at bringing together Western and regional leaders to map out a strategy for Afghanistan after the withdrawal of foreign forces in 2014.

It is one of the major implications of the US-led aerial strikes and anti-Pakistan policies as without Pakistan’s support the real purpose of the western leaders at Bonn Conference, who seek to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of NATO troops, will badly fail.

It could be judged from the statement of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who during her latest trip to Pakistan had emphasized on Islamabad to help “Taliban to enter negotiations in good faith” including the Haqqani militants. But despite the positive statements of Ms. Clinton to defuse the tension in Pak-US relations, deliberate cross-border ground and air terrorism have continued by the US-led NATO forces on Pakistan, which are part of American duplicity with Islamabad.

Despite its failed adventure in coping with the Afghan Taliban, as ambush assaults and suicide attacks continue on the Afghan and coalition forces, US plans to keep military bases in Afghanistan after the 2014 deadline for withdrawal of coalition troops. It indicates that US is not sincere in bringing stability in Afghanistan and Pakistan as it is deliberately destabilizing both the countries to fulfill its secret designs including those of India which has well-established its network in Afghanistan. Their secret agencies, CIA and RAW are conducting covert operations against China, Iran and Pakistan.

Now by ignoring the dangers of its new strategy to directly strike Pakistan’s tribal regions—violation of the sovereignty of an independent state, without caring for the reaction of the elected government as well as the people of the country, Washington is challenging the security of our country, thus making itself more insecure in turn.

Another drastic implication of US such a strategy is that it will certainly result into more unity among the elected government, security forces, the general masses and even the Pakistani religious organizations, consequently massive hostility against America.

This will further expedite extremism among the young men, turning them into suicide bombers, radicalizing a vast region from Pakistan to Somalia and Afghanistan to the Indian-held Kashmir, bringing about more terrorism, directed against the Americans ultimately making Afghanistan more insecure besides endangering the western interests.

In case of the US continued aggression against Islamabad, the latter would be compelled to break off ties with the former. And both Iran and Pakistan might stand together to thwart the US strategic designs. In such adverse circumstances, American worldwide interests are likely to be jeopardized in these countries including whole of the Middle East where anti-American resentment is running high in wake of the violent protests against the pro-American rulers. Besides, instability in Pakistan will also envelop India by which the United States wants to counterbalance a peace-loving country like China.

These negative developments will further reduce the US bargaining leverage on hostile small countries like Iran, North Korea, Venezuela etc.

Although this time, other NATO allies supported America for attack on Libya, yet in case of targeting Pakistan perennially, most of the US allies could leave the US war against terrorism, and a greater rift will be created between the US and other NATO members in wake of the competing debt crises, while people of other European states held the US responsible for the global financial crisis.

Thus American cost of war against terrorism which has reached approximately seven billion dollars will further increase, augmenting US multiple crises inside the country where people are already protesting against capitalists and unemployment.

Nonetheless, US-led NATO air strikes on Pakistani soil are likely to open a chain of drastic implications, if Washington does not rectify its faulty policies.

Does BJP Rule over India?

 By Sajjad Shaukat

Does BJP Rule over India?: Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is the first Sikh who obtained this position, and neatly won a second term in May 2009 as the leader of the National Congress Party. It displays his statesmanship qualities. He is among a few leaders who are recognised on global level because of their leadership traits. President Obama has described him as a historic figure. When American magazine, Newsweek ranked world leaders, Mr. Singh topped the list, winning praise for his humility and virtuousness.

Despite being a seasoned politician, when Prime Minister Singh deals with Pakistan, he tries to show moderate approach, but his tone hardens, indicating self-contradictions, when he comes under the pressure of Indian fundamentalist-opposition, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). On a number of occasions, Congress-led Prime Minister Singh has followed the dictates of BJP by backing out of his promises and commitments, putting a question mark, either Congress rules over India or BJP?

In this respect, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, after meeting his Pakistan’s counterpart Yousaf Raza Gilani on the sidelines of the 17th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit in Maldives on November 10 this year, called Gilani, a “man of peace.” He said, “The time has come to write a new chapter in the history of our countries” and to improve the ties. Unlike, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Gilani, Singh issued more optimistic statements in a joint press conference, and agreed to further expand Pak-India interaction at all levels to improve their bilateral relations in various fields. Both the rulers stated that all the issues like Kashmir, Sir Creek, Siachen, Wullar Barrage, Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) water etc. were discussed.

While on the same day, Pakistan’s main opposition leader Nawaz Sharif welcomed the initiation of Pak-Indian dialogue, but India’s opposition party BJP severely criticised Prime Minister Singh for calling his counterpart Gilani a “man of peace.” BJP leader and former external affairs minister Yashwant Sinha said, “The Prime Minister of India has erred in describing “Mr Gilani as a man of peace.” He accused that Pakistan had done little to contain terrorism or bring the conspirators of 26/11, Mumbai attacks to justice. She further alleged, “The central issue between India and Pakistan has been cross-border terrorism and there is nothing Pakistan has done…it is not serious about tackling the issue.” Notably, some other BJP leaders also expressed similar views.

Confused in wake of BJP reaction, just two days after showing optimism towards Pakistan in Maldives, Manmohan Singh stressed that he made it clear to Gilani that if another barbarous Mumbai attack were to happen, it will be a setback, explaining “I left Gilani in no doubt that if justice is not being done to those responsible to the barbarous attack of Mumbai, it would not be possible to move forward with the peace process.”

However, with a combative and fundamentalist opposition targeting him of going too soft about Pakistan, Indian ruler Singh has always succumbed to the pressure of BJP by changing his optimism into pessimism.
In 2009, when Pakistan’s Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani met Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit at Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt, a joint communique was issued, stating that both the neighbouring countries would resume their suspended dialogue, talking on all the issues including the thorny dispute of Kashmir. But PM Singh backed out of the joint communique. In this respect, on July 21, 2009, Indian Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon ruled out talking to Pakistan on any issue including Kashmir other than terrorism.

Notably, on July 18, 2009, Prime Minister Gilani had stated that at Sharm El-Sheikh, he also raised the issue of Indian interference in Balochistan. In that context, the BJP made much hue and cry in the Lok Sabha, embarrassing Singh as to why he did not respond to Gilani’s allegation in relation to Indian incusion in Balochistan.

It is mentionable that on April 28-29, 2010, after meeting his counterpart Gilani on the sidelines of the 16th summit of SAARC in Thimpu, Bhutan, Manmohan Singh had issued positive statements in reviving the Pak-India peace process and to resolve all the issues with Pakistan, but no practical steps were taken in this regard as Indian prime minister remained under the duress of BJP, reflecting its approach by puting terrorism as a pre-condition to talk on all the issues.

India had suspended the composite dialogue with Islamabad under the pretext of Mumbai terror attacks. Both the countries had resumed the new phase of talks through their home secretaries who had met on March 28 and 29, 2009. These were the first structured bilateral talks which led to Pak-Indian comprehensive dialogue at higher level. But every time, prime ministers and foreign ministers of the Pakistan and India have ended their meetings with a positive note, terming their talks ‘useful’ and vowed that the same would pave the way for solution of all the related-disputes including the thorny issue of Kashmir, yet the same failed without producing real results owing to India as by following the BJP policy, New Delhi wants to focus on only single agenda of terrorism and the perpetrators of the Mumbai-terror mayhem.
It is of particular attention that while knowing the gravity of the Kashmir uprising, Prime Minister Singh had said in 2010 that the centre was willing to consider autonomy for the state. But BJP had questioned Singh’s statement, saying: “autonomy for the state would not be tolerated.” The pressure of BJP could also be noted from Manmohan Singh’s statement, who had said on June 28, 2011 that Pakistan should “leave Kashmir alone.”  Besides, Bharatiya Janata Party has repeatedly stated that the Congress government re-initiated the present Pak-India dialogue under the US duress.

The extremist and anti-Pakistan party, BJP has always put pressure on the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by opposing the revival of Pak-Indian dialogue. Now, Singh has again come under the duress of BJP as his negative statement after meeting Gilani in Maldives shows. In this context, Singh also indicated, “I told him (Gilani) that terror as an instrument of state policy has no takers in the world.” It reminds the previous statements of Prime Minister Singh who had also reiterated on January 6, 2010 that Pakistan was using terrorism as state policy and the Mumbai attacks must have had its official support.
As regards the Mumbai catastrophe, in fact, it was arranged by RAW in connivance with Indian home-grown terrorists. In the recent past, the true story of Mumbai canage has been exposed when a day after the Indian media exposed the name of the terrorist, Wazhul Qamar Khan whose name was included in the list of 50 alleged terrorists given to Pakistan in March, 2011. On May 18, 2011, Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram was compelled to admit that what the media mentioned was correct. On the other hand, Pakistan’s security and intelligence agencies were desperately looking for Wazhul Khan. But Wazhur Qamar “is living in the suburbs of Mumbai with his family” and “is regularly reports to a court that gave him bail” as reported by The Times of India.

Still, India has also failed in supplying solid proof to Pakistan in relation to Mumbai tragedy except providing a self-fabricated story which was quite fake—full of loopholes, created by Indian secret agency, RAW. Neither, India provided Islamabad reciprocal information about Indian officials involved in Malay villages and Samjotha Express blasts in which Indian mastermind Lt. Col. Srikant Purohit was found guilty in targeting Muslims nor it took action against the concerned culprits.

Regarding the Maldives meeting, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik said about Pakistan’s position that Ajmal Kasab, the lone survivor of the 26/11 terror-incident is a “non-state actor…should be hanged, so should perpetrators of the Samjhauta Express blast.” He also reiterated that Pakistan was awaiting a visit of the Judicial Commission to India, and needs “credible evidence” to prosecute the accused of the 26/11 in his country.

Nonetheless, politicians may deny their statements, but it is not the job of statesmen to eat their own words. It is quite true in case of the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who has been playing a subservient role before the religious extremist party-BJP.

On November 13, 211, BJP leader L K Advani described  Manmohan Singh as the “weakest,” Prime Minister of India.

Although political blackmailing has served various domains of politics and diplomacy, yet in the modern era, especially democratic governments and opposition parties avoid practice of direct blackmailing. But Bharatiya Janata Party has left no stone unturned in blackmailing the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, particularly by pressurising him regarding positive solution of various Pak-Indian issues.

No doubt, Manmohan Singh is an experienced and polished leader of Congress, but has become a nominal prime minister of India, raising the question, does BJP rule over India?

Shocking Brutalities in Kashmir

Shocking Brutalities in Kashmir

By Sajjad Shaukat

The question of unmarked graves which shows shocking brutalities of Indian security forces in the Indian-Held Kashmir is appearing with more details which were concealed by New Delhi. In this respect, in its recent report which was also published by several Chinese newspapers, China’s leading News Agency Xinhua has unearthed more gruesome details on world-stunning unmarked graves in Poonch, in the Indian occupied Kashmir.

While quoting reliable local sources, the report disclosed the statement of Sofi Aziz Joo, caretaker of a graveyard as saying, “Police and Army used to bring those bodies and direct me to bury them. The bodies were usually bullet-ridden, mutilated, faces disfigured and sometimes without limbs and heads.”

Xinhua’s report said, “Burials are carried out quietly without involving the local people…burials of those killed by army and police usually stoke protests in the region against police and army with the demand of end to New Delhi’s rule.”

On September 27 this year Amnesty International said that lawmakers in Indian-held Kashmir should discuss the recent discovery of unnamed graves containing more than 2,000 bullet-riddled bodies and should demand an independent panel be set up to identify the bodies, noting the same recommendation made by the Jammu-Kashmir State Human Rights Commission which had yet to be acted upon. It repeatedly emphasised, indicating, “The state government must also ensure that all past and current allegations of enforced disappearances are promptly, thoroughly, independently and impartially investigated”, adding that anyone found responsible should be prosecuted.

It is notable that after widespread allegations of human rights abuses in the Indian occupied Kashmir by the army, paramilitary and police, a commission was set up in 1997. However, Indian Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has officially acknowledged in its report in August this year that innocent civilians killed in the two-decade conflict may have been buried in unmarked graves.

According to the report of the Indian commission, “Hundreds of unmarked graves in Kashmir hold more than 2,000 bullet-riddled bodies that may include innocent victims, despite police claims that they were militants fighting Indian rule in the disputed Himalayan territory.”

Indian Commission’s report indicated, “2,156 unidentified bodies were found in mass graves in three northern mountainous regions, while 574 other bodies were found in the graves have been identified as local residents.” The probe said it noted 851 unknown bodies in Baramulla, 14 in Bandipore, 14 in Handwara and 1277 in Kupwara. While concealing actual details, it also acknowledged that few bodies were defaced, 20 were charred, five only had skulls remaining and there were at least 18 graves with more than one body each. Before this admission, Indian high officials have been emphasising that all these bodies were of militant fighters—claimed by police when they were handed over to villages for burial.

While, rights groups have disclosed that more than 8,000 people have disappeared, accusing government forces of staging fake gunbattles to cover up killings. The groups also revealed that suspected rebels have been arrested and never heard from again.

Notably, Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP), which in March 2008 released a report, titled, “Facts Underground”, had indicated the presence of unidentified graves. The APDP, which estimates around 10,000 people went missing during last two decades, claims, “many missing people may have ended up in these unmarked graves.”

In December 2009, another human rights group, the International People’s Tribunal on Human Rights had released a report claiming that unnamed graveyards “entomb bodies of those, murdered in fake encounters and arbitrary executions.”   More..

Complexities of Peace Deals with the Militants

Complexities of Peace Deals with the Militants

By Sajjad Shaukat

In case of Afghan Taliban, US needs more patience and tolerance instead of following a war-mongering diplomacy, full of threats as unlike the insurgency of Spain and Northern Ireland of  UK, there are a number of intricacies involved in Afghanistan. However, the United States has finally decided to bring the Afghan insurgents to the peace table with the help of Islamabad. No doubt, every conflict ends in a negotiated solution, but in case of Afghanistan, it is a tough challenge which involves a number of complexities.   Full Story Here

U-Turn in Karzai’s Stand

By Sajjad Shaukt

In an interview to a private Pakistani TV channel on October 22 this year, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said that Kabul would never betray a ‘brother’, “if Pakistan is attacked by US or India.” He explained, “Pak-US tension did not have any impact on Kabul’s attitude towards Pakistan.” However, this shows a u-turn in Karzai’s stand which needs an appropriate analysis.

The remarks of President Karzai are in sharp contrast to Kabul’s past and recent allegations against Pakistan over cross-border terrorism, accusation that Pakistan was involved in killing Afghan peace envoy Burhanuddin Rabbani on September 20. On October 3, a statement from Afghanistan’s presidential palace said that evidence shows that Rabbani’s death “was plotted in Quetta and the person who carried out the suicide attack was a citizen of Pakistan.” Indirectly, in this regard, Kabul also accused Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). On the other side, Islamabad rejected allegations, saying that Pakistan or the ISI was not involved in the murder of Burhanuddin Rabban.

On October 4, in a televised address, Karzai condemned Pakistan’s double game on terrorism in Afghanistan, blaming that many Afghans are suspicious of Pakistan’s connections to the Taliban-led insurgency in their country. He elaborated, “Pakistan has not supported our efforts to bring peace and security to Afghanistan.”  At the same time, Karzai urged Pakistan to use its influence in bringing the militants to direct peace talks.

Failing in making his own policy and taking his own stand, Karzai whose puppet regime was established by the US-led western countries after ousting the Taliban, has always followed the blame game of America and India against Pakistan. In 2008, frustrated in coping with the insurgents in his own country, Afghan President Hamid Karzai had threatened of targeting militant’s locations inside Pakistani territories. He had also advised the US-led NATO forces to invade Pakistan’s tribal areas.

By pursuing Indian approach, the Afghan Government had blamed the ISI in the July 2008 attack on the Indian Embassy in Kabul. On October 8, 2009 when a large suicide bomb exploded near the Indian embassy there, both India and Afghanistan had again accused that ISI was behind the attack.

On May 2 this year, when Osama Bin Laden died in a US military raid, Afghan President Karzai alleged in the language of his foreign masters that other leadership of Al Qaeda has also taken shelter in Pakistan.

In the past few years, when Karzai felt that well-trained troops of the US and NATO, equipped with sophisticated weaponry have badly failed in crushing the continued resistance of the Afghan Taliban who have been fighting against the occupying forces, he started changing his stance to some extent. Confused in his goals, he also began to criticise the US for innocent casualties of Afghan people due to aerial bombardment and ground shelling. He also tried to contact Taliban leaders for a peace deal, calling the Taliban leader Mullah Omar his brother. But Taliban refused any dialogue until foreign troops leave Afghanistan. And when US announced that foreign troops would withdraw from Afghanistan upto 2014, Karzai was greatly depressed because survival of his government has totally depended upon the US-led forces.

As regards the question of security, on October 7, Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai told the BBC that the “failure to provide security to the Afghan people has been his government’s greatest shortcoming.” He openly remarked that it “is 10 years since the US invaded Afghanistan…NATO and the US must share the blame for failing to deal with the Taliban.” But he again accused Pakistan of supporting the militancy.

However, after acting upon an ambivalent policy, full of paradoxes, Karzai has suddenly taken a u-turn in his stand, revealing, “If ever there is a war between Pakistan and America, Afghanistan will side with Pakistan.” He further indicated about Islamabad, “Let us engage from a different platform, a platform in which the two brothers only progress towards a better future in peace and harmony.” Nevertheless, u-turn of Karzai’s stand is owing to a number of reasons.

In this context, since May 2, this year, tension existed between Pak-US relations, which was increased recently due to the hard statements of Admiral Mike Mullen (R) and some other US high officials who alleged that ISI was behind Haqqani network in connection with US embassy attack in Kabul. On the other side, Pakistan’s civil and military leadership rejected American coercive diplomacy, refusing to take military action in North Waziristan. In this backdrop, realising the ground realties and showing realistic approach, a positive shift has occurred in the US policy towards Pakistan, which was displayed during the latest trip of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Islamabad.

Ms. Clinton said on October 21, “Pakistan has a critical role to play in supporting Afghan reconciliation and ending the conflict.” She also clarified that there was no evidence that ISI was involved in attack on the US embassy in Kabul through Haqqani network. She also agreed with Islamabad’s stand that infiltration of militants from Afghanistan inside Pakistan should also be stopped, and US interests demand stability in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

In her return to Washington, on October 23, in a CNN interview, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, revealed that an improved level of mutual understanding has taken place with Pakistan. The US and Pakistan will work together for Afghan peace. She also pointed out, “US acknowledges the need to eliminate safe havens of terrorists in Afghanistan…who attack Pakistan.”

It is noteworthy that before visiting Islamabad, in Kabul, on October 20, Ms. Clinton emphasised Afghanistan’s distrustful leadership to keep up Taliban reconciliation efforts and boost counterterrorism co-operation with Pakistan as the Obama administration presses ahead with troop withdrawal plan.

Now, change in the US policy is quite opposite to the stand of Afghan President Hamid Karzai. Worried about his presidency, he knows that if the US-led NATO forces withdraw from Afghanistan, his regime will not survive due to stiff resistance of Afghan Taliban. Even India will not be in a position to maintain its network, and its investment-projects will also not succeed in wake of the successful guerrilla warfare of the Taliban.

It is mentionable that India and Afghanistan signed a strategic agreement on October 5 this year, deepening their security and economic ties. The deal will guarantee Afghanistan’s security as foreign troops begin withdrawing from the country, which will be completed in 2014. However, apparently, it is open strategic agreement, but secretly, India which has already spent billion of dollars in Afghanistan, wants to further strengthen its grip in that country not only to get strategic depth against Islamabad, but also to use the war-torn country in destabilising Pakistan. For this purpose, secret agencies like Indian RAW and Afghan Khad are in collusion and has been sending well-trained agents and militants in Pakistan, who not only attack the check posts of Pakistan’s security forces, but also commit other subversive acts in various places of Pakistan, besides supporting Baloch separatism.

Being unsuccessful in their objevtives, India and Afghan rulers, with the help of RAW and Khad could act upon dirty tricks to get especially American troops entangled in Afghanistan permanently. In this context, with the help of some so-called Muslims, these secret agencies could increase attacks inside Afghanistan, particularly targeting American soldiers with the sole aim to revive old blame game of the US against Islamabad and ISI in relation to cross-border-terrorism.

Although, President Karzai favours dialogue with the Afghan insurgents, yet America should remain alert that New Delhi and Kabul in connivance against Washington and Islamabad will try to fail the peace deals with the Taliban militants in Afghanistan and Pakistan. In this regard, they will also make ground to implicate Islamabad and ISI, re-creating a rift in Pak-US ties. Thus India and Karzai could entrap the US permanently in Afghanistan in order to achieve their secret designs by damaging American global and regional interests. In this intricate situation, while quoting a report, a Pakistan’s daily newspaper disclosed on October 24, “Pakistan has told the United States that it is ready to facilitate its talks with the Afghan Taliban, but cannot become a guarantor to the negotiating process.”

Nonetheless, u-turn in Karzai’s stand contains hidden agenda of India and Afghanistan against Pakistan and the United States.

newstrack66: Countering Enemies’ Aggression

newstrack66: Countering Enemies’ Aggression: Countering Enemies’ Aggression As part of the new aggression, Pakistan has become special target of the internal and external threats , ...

Countering Enemies’ Aggression

In the past aggression, was openly being made between two sovereign belligerents through the traditional armies with tanks and machine guns, though the same also included some subversive tactics on limited scale. But the arena of aggression has changed. In the present era, non-state actors have made it difficult for the military to serve alone as the automatic dominant sphere in every war, covering all the land, sea and space domains. Now, different lethal weapons such as suicide attacks, bomb blasts and targeted killings used by the terrorists coupled with non-lethal techniques of psychological warfare like propaganda, creation of divisions among government institutes, politicians, general masses etc. can be more harmful in damaging the interest of a rival country.

As part of the new aggression, Pakistan has become special target of the internal and external threats, facing multi-faceted crises created by the United States, India and Israel through their secret agencies like CIA, RAW and Mossad which are in connivance to destabilise Pakistan as it is the only ‘nuclearsied’ country in the Islamic World.

In this respect, on August 6, this year, NBC TV channel disclosed that the “US has a contingency plan to seize Pakistan’s nuclear weapons…if it fears they are about to fall into the wrong hands.”
It is noteworthy that US seeks to shift Afghan war to Pakistan after the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan. In this context, the hidden aims behind are to produce more terrorism in Pakistan. With the help of RAW and Mossad, Obama Administration has already been implementing its agenda of secret war in Pakistan through various subversive acts. Thus after creating unrest in Pakistan, America wants to show to its western allies that country’s nuclear weapons are not safe and could be snached by the Taliban insurgents. Then, Washington is likely to ask Islamabad to rollback its nuclear programe or to hand over its all nuclear assets to the US.
Although terrorist events have been conducted by the external enemies intermittently in the last 10 years, yet such incidents have accelerated in the past few months. Besides other terror-incidents in various cities, foreign elements are also fuelling sectarian and ethnic violence in Pakistan’s seaport Karachi. In the last few months, a fresh wave of violence sparked by the killings of several political activists has swept the city with targeted killings, burning of vehicles and firings between two groups. Similar wave of terrorism continues in Balochistan, particularly targeting the Punjabis.

It is mentionable that America is playing a double game with Islamabad through various tactics such as pressuring the latter to do more against the militants by ignoring the internal backlash, intermittent drone strikes, suspension of $800 million in military assistance and accusing the country’s intelligence agency, ISI of supporting cross-border terrorism in Afghanistan by the Haqqani network. But in fact, under the pretext of Haqqani network, the US-supported intermittent attacks by the armed militants who crossed inside Pakistan from Afghanistan and attack check posts of the security forces, schools and mosques, continues.  In this regard, on October 6, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani issued a warning to Afghanistan to stop cross-border incursions in Pakistan.

However, in the recent days, tension increased in Pak-US relations when American retiring top military officer Mike Mullen accused that Pakistan is waging a ‘proxy war’ in Afghanistan with the assistance of ISI. In this context, Pakistan’s civil and military leadership not only rejected American false allegations, but also refused to act upon its old maxim to do more against the insurgents in North Waziriatan.

While taking note of the US designs, on September 29, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani convened the All Parties Conference (APC) which was participated by the top political and military leaders who displayed unprecedented unity in order to cope with the prospective aggression of the United States. Besides, in their statements, most of our religions parties and members of the civil societies have also shown unanimous approach against any possible threat to the state. But it is not enough to counter the aggression as Pakistan has been facing a number of enemies, posing multiple threats.

It is notable that some opportunist elements like the US, India, Afghanistan and Israel are in collusion as part of a plot to weaken Pakistan to fulfill their common strategic interests. For this purpose, apart from sending militants from Afghanistan, who commit subversive acts like suicide attacks and bomb blasts in our country on daily basis, their secret agencies have rapidly established their collective network inside Pakistan. They have recruited Pakistani nationals who are vulnerable and can work on payroll. These foreign elements have also purchased the services of some Indian Muslims. Those who did not come up to their terms have been neutralised or murdered. In this respect, in the past few years, some politicians, intellectuals, journalists and religious leaders have been killed by the agents of these external agencies. Their purpose is to create perennial unrest in Pakistan, while main aim remains to disintegrate the country.

Some reports suggest that CIA, RAW and Mossad have been recruiting smugglers, employees of the security companies, experts of the psychological warfare, scholars and journalists so as to obtain anti-Pakistan designs of America, India and Israel.

Nevertheless, it is regrettable that on the one hand, country’s multiple crises indicate that Pakistan is rapidly advancing towards a ‘failed state’ owing to the sinister designs of the external forces, while on the other, our media, particularly most of the TV channels conduct controversial debate between politicians and commentators, contesting internal politics. Like the foreign enemies, by ignoring the sacrifices of Pakistan’s security forces against terrorism, they malign Pak Army and ISI. In this regard, some of our media anchors and most of politicians or political experts pay no attention to the national unity in its true sense. At this critical juncture, while situation demands selfless unity to counter the aggression of all the enemies, both our media and some politicians manipulate every terror-incident or negative development against Pakistan. On renowned TV channels, our politicians oppose their rivals for the sake of opposition. Accusation and counteraccusations have become their routine practice. In this context, they opine as to what the people want, but conceal as to what people actually need? Especially, it appears that a majority of Pakistan’s media anchors is on the payroll of external enemies.

At present, people of Pakistan need strong sense of solidarity. We can also deduce it from the statement of Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani who, while taking note of the present critical situation on June 9, stressed upon national unity. Kayani especially explained, “Any effort to create divisions among important institutions of the country is not in national interest…the people of Pakistan whose support the army has always considered vital for its operations against terrorists.”

In order to counter the enemies, true unity requires that our political leaders must pledge that they will not exploit their regional and provincial differences at the cost of the national interests so as to grab political power. In this respect, a blind dedication to one’s own race, tribe and creed should not be allowed to create hatred in one group against the other. In these terms, formation of alliances and counter alliances, based upon the principle of hostility for the sake of hostility should also be abandoned, while our politicians and leaders must create national cohesion among various segments of society.

They must avoid manipulating present thorny issues in order to increase their vote-bank. If any controversy arises between the rival politicians, it can better be settled through mutual dialogue in consonance with the constitution. For this aim, in order to castigate the conspiracy of the external enemies against the integrity of the country, our political leaders must also stop exploiting any crisis against the security forces and ISI whose image are deliberately being tarnished by the external plotters.

In producing real unity, Pakistan’s media, especially TV channels can play a key role. First of all, owners these channels should detect some anchors who are working on the payroll of foreign countries. Then they must terminate their services as they are also enemies of the country. Particularly, our media should give a matching response to malicious propaganda of the US-led some western countries including India and Israel which are leaving no stone unturned in distorting the image of Pakistan, its army and ISI. As unlike the printed media, electronic media attract more viewers, so Pakistan’s TV commentators must openly disclose the collective connivance of CIA, RAW and Mossad regarding their support to subversive acts inside our country and against Pak nukes.

No doubt, at this critical hour, Pakistan’s survival lies in strong cohesion and selfless unity which are essential to counter the enemies’ aggression.

US Wavering Approach towards Pakistan

In this regard, on October 6, while addressing a White House news conference, US President Barack Obama accused Pakistan in relation to Afghanistan, saying that there were “some connections” between Pakistan’s intelligence services and extremists. Obama explained that the United States would not be comfortable in a long-term strategic relationship with Pakistan, if it felt Islamabad was not mindful of US interests. But at the same time, Obama remarked that the United States and Pakistan were cooperating on a “whole range of issues” and admitted that recent successes against Al Qaeda-linked forces in the region would not have been possible without Pakistani help. Obama further said that the United States remained committed to helping Pakistan confront its own problems despite concern over ties.

Pakistan Faces Unjust World Order

In fact, CIA-led Indian RAW and Israeli Mossad which are already behind suicide attacks, bomb blasts and targeted killings in Pakistan have continuously been exploiting the killing of Osama Bin Laden. These elements are distorting the image of Islamabad in the comity of nations by indicating that other leaders of Al Qaeda have also taken shelter in Pakistan. Meanwhile, America has also increased drone attacks on Pakistan, which could also include Balochistan and other major cities of the country. At the same time, by setting aside the joint session of Pakistan’s Parliament, protesting the violation of the country’s sovereignty, recently, Obama repeatedly made it clear, “he was ready to order more assaults against any safe havens” of terrorists in Pakistan.....  Continue reading >>
